The exact cause yet to be discovered, but it is known that increased sensitivity to reproductive hormones interferes with brain activities and nerve pathways that control body reaction and mood.
What is PMDD Treatment?
1. Oral Contraceptive Pills
By controlling or stopping period can control and reduce PMDD symptoms. However, some women have side effects by taking oral contraceptive pills.
2. Antibiotics or Painkiller
They are usually taken when headache, joint pain or muscular pain. It is easily found in Pharmacy without prescription.

Usually taken when emotional control is needed. However many cases have side effect such as headache, vomiting or gastrointestinal bleeding.
What is recommended for PMDD?
"Inositol"
Inositol is a natural supplement, not a pharmaceutical. And rarely have side effects. Also, in some cases, it is more effective than commonly prescribed medication.
1. Depression
Serotonin, Dopamine, and Nor-epinephrine, the major neurotransmitters that produce positive mood, act through inositol.
Also, these neurotransmitters play important roles in mood, sleep, productivity, stress-handling ability and learning memory abilities.
In fact, Inositol levels are significantly lower on person have depression than person does not.
- Frontal Cortex Myo-Inositol Is Associated with Sleep and Depression in Adolescents: A Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectros copy Study Anna S Urrila et al, 2017

- Doubled-blind, controlled, crossover trial of inositol versus fluvoxamine for the treatment of panic disorder, A palatnik et al, 2001
2. Overeating
Inositol significantly lowers craving for overeating.
- Effect of inositol on bulimia nervosa and binge eating, D Geber, 2001.

3. PMDD
One meta-analysis study found taht inositol supplements were helpful in people with depression, especially PMDD.

- Significantly decreased on Chest pain, headache, muscular pain (182.7 to 77)
- Significantly lowered mood depression after taking Inositol
Inositol is more effective if Choline is taken together and it is recommended to take Inositol with Choline.

Choline plays very similar role to Inositol, supporting brain health and neurotransmitter function, and creating precursor to acetylcholine.
